DAR-VI conducts ARB Symposium

ILOILO CITY - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently held a symposium here for the benefit of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) in the Punta Villa Resort, at the Arevalo district.

The conference aims to capacitate and create awareness to farmer group leaders and members, specifically on the principles of land amortization, cooperative tax exemption and privileges, and available credit programs.

Invited guest speakers were from the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

Farmer and farmer leaders from the 130 different Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) in Panay and Guimaras gathered together to attend the ARB Symposium conducted by the DAR Regional Office 6 spearheaded by RD Stephen M. Leonidas.

The venue was also an opportunity for the farmers and farmer-leaders to reconnect, expand their knowledge, and share their experiences in enhancing the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

Likewise, the summit hoped to widen the participants’ information of the different programs and services offered by the DAR and other partner agencies of the ARB Organizations.

Mr. Lemuel Sembrano of the LBP-Agrarian Office Center discussed matters pertaining to Land Amortization. Atty. Roumilia Alpasan-Base of the CDA discussed pertinent policies on cooperative taxation.

DAR Regional Director Stephen M. Leonidas led the DAR Region 6 team in the conduct of the ARB Symposium held in Punta Villa on May 6, 2019.

Meanwhile, a team from the PCIC, headed by Vice President Antonio Uy, II, comprehensively discussed the benefits of the ARB Insurance Program.

A total of 134 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organization representatives attended the said symposium with 22 coming from Aklan, 30 from Antique, 27 from Capiz, 13 from Guimaras and 42 from Iloilo.

The participants include the Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officers II and the regional and provincial Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officers.

The event was likewise graced by Usec. Karlo S. Bello of the Field Operations Group, DAR Central Office.
