30 Quirino ARBs now entrepreneurs

Diffun, Quirino - After 26 sessions, PARPO II Jess Beth G. Quidasol confirmed 30 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) as graduates during the Farm Business School (FBS) graduation ceremony and harvest festival.

The FBS graduates earlier banded together to form the Gulac Farmers Association (GFA) and was duly registered at the Department of Labor and Employment.

“Thank you for giving us the opportunity not just to learn but, also, to improve and market our produce. It will be a big help not just to us, farmers, but, also, to our families who are depending on us,” said Fernando A. Obra, president of GFA.

The ARBs from Gulac, Diffun, Quirino were taught farm business management, crop production, and marketing. It served as a venue for developing their entrepreneurial skill through hands-on trainings.

The FBS is a unique educational system where farmers gain new farming know-how, while enhancing their business acumen – bookkeeping, accounting and, more importantly, accessing the market.

Farmer-participants were given the opportunity to conduct market survey by visiting the Santiago Public Market and benchmarking by visiting various demo farms in Cordon and Santiago City, Isabela. They were taught how to consider their farm as a business.

FBS is a project between and among the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute, DA-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service the Department of Agrarian Reform, and the United Nations-Food and Agriculture Organization.
