DAR turns over FMR to Bakun

downloadBAKUN, Benguet – The Namagtey-Tungey farm to market road in Barangay Ampusongan here constructed through funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency was turned over to the local government on Oct. 23.

Along with the paved 5.314-kilometer road, 3,364 meters of gutter and 18 lines of culvert were also constructed.

The JICA funded the projects under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project III.

Department of Public Works and Highways District 2 Provincial Engineer Dominador Daway the project cost P25,918,880.07, 10 percent or P2.2 million of which has been retained  for corrections or repair in case defects occur until its liability period expires after February 2014.

Mayor Faustino Labinio urged his townsfolk to clean and maintain the road for their own welfare. He said if the culvers are clogged, they should fix it themselves and should not wait for the government to do it for them.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II Robert Ampaguey said it is the LGU’s responsibility to maintain the road for at least another 10 years. He said the LGU may construct additional curb and gutters or repair scoured portions to prevent destruction of the road.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating Committee member Jesse Tayaban added the residents should take care of the infrastructure, considering government funds are currently focused on areas struck by calamities recently.

Joseph Domingo, another committee member, added it would be a great shame to JICA if they see the road is not maintained.

Also present during the ceremony was Apolonio Bagano of the Office of the Governor and Mario Baucas of the Office of the Congressman, who expressed gratitude to the Department of Agrarian Reform and DPWH and encouraged the constituents to produce better quality of cabbage, one of the crops planted in the municipality.
