DAR bares P63.3-M worth of agri-support projects in Kalinga

piaMANILA, April 25 -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in the province of Kalinga recently reported that P63.3-million worth of infrastructure projects were at hand to boost the economic lives of the farmers in the countryside.

Chief Agrarian Reform Project Officer Agustina Duyan said the P30.3-million Bunog-Matoc communal irrigation project (CIP) in the municipality of Tinglayan is 48 percent accomplished while the P34-million concreting, with two bridge components, of Bugnay-Butbut farm-to-market road (FMR) is scheduled for bidding.

The projects are funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) implemented under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project Phase III (ARISP-III) of DAR’s comprehensive agrarian reform program (CARP).

Duyan said the irrigation project, servicing a total area of 147 hectares, will benefit the sub-tribes of Bangad, Dananao, Sumadel, Butbut and Tongrayan while the Bugnay-Butbut FMR and two small bridges will benefit barangay Bugnay and its adjacent communities.

“The department also trained irrigators to capacitate them on making the communal irrigation system an income generating project through payment of irrigation fees for maintenance and a job creation project by hiring of collectors and laborers doing maintenance work,” Duyan said.

Duyan also said that they provided training to farmers on organic farming that includes the production of foliar fertilizer and pesticides. Separate demonstration farms on both products are also maintained in Ambato and Dananao. (DAR)
