news reg 1 pix 1 september 27 2018Some 103 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and smallholder farmers are now equipped with agri-entrepreneurial skills after they participated to the recently concluded three-day training workshop on Product Selection, Supply Assessment and Market Chain Study conducted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Agusan del Norte.

Reynaldo Villarama, one of the workshop's participants, is a Vice Chairperson of Duque Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (DARBECO) in Brgy. Taguibo, Butuan City and concurrent Board of Trustee of Taguibo Irrigators Association said the training help them learn entrepreneurial skills and establish strong business relations with buyers.

“I am excited for the things that will come our way. Last April, my rice production reached 5,000 kilos of fresh palay with an income of 100,000 hoping, I am positive that my income will increase more through LinkSFarM project,” said Villarama who is agrarian reform beneficiary of 2.25 hectares of land devoted to rice.

DAR Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II (PARPO II) Andre B. Atega said the workshop is implemented under LinkSFarm Project or Linking Small Farmholder to Market project, which aims to make increase agricultural productivity and effectively manage the smallholder farmers’ agricultural production by applying the value chain process technique.news reg 1 pix 2 september 27 2018

“The training focuses on the importance of market chain study, which gathers market information of the intended buyers to increase the marketability of the farmers’ produce. This activity enhances the farmers knowledge to formulate agro-enterprise objectives for collective marketing,” Atega said.

Atega added that the trainings are in line with LinkSFarm’s project approach where the DAR, local government unit of Butuan, farmer groups and various stakeholders, converge to engage farm business by way of collective marketing approach.

The LinkSFarM project organized twenty-two (22) clusters of several smallholder-farmers and Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) involving eight Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) from different Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) in Butuan City.

According to LinkSFarM Project Provincial Point Person Juanita Balibay, the training helped the farmers fully understand the cluster’s capacity to supply selected products to the market.
