DAR lauded farmers’ organizations in Caraga

news reg pix 1 march 17 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) recently commended 13 Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) from Caraga Region for their good performance as borrowers of the Agrarian Production Credit Program (APCP) complemented by the three agencies.

The recognition was handed to the organizations by DAR Undersecretary Rosalina Bistoyong, DA Secretary Proceso Alcala, and Landbank Board Gerardo Bulatao during the 2nd National Agri-Fisheries Credit Program Assessment and Planning Workshop held in Cagayan de Oro City.

The APCP is a joint DAR-DA-LBP credit and capacity development program designed to respond to the credit needs of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) on various economic projects.

DAR Regional Director Julita Ragandang said the farmer organizations were able to achieve 100% re-payment of their loans. “This means to say that the program does not just work to the advantage of the farmers, they are also doing well for being able to pay on time,” she said.

Of the awardees, 10 are from Surigao Norte and Dinagat Islands, namely  Trinidad Farmers Agra Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Honrado Farmers Credit Cooperative, Cantapoy Farmers and Fishermen Credit Coop, San Pedro Rural Workers’ Association, Himama-ug Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Cooperative, Esperanza Farmers and Credit Cooperative, Ima Women’s  Initiated Community Association, Union Agri-Aqua Credit Organization, Mabini Farmers Credit Cooperative and A&M Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Two organizations were from Agusan del Norte namely, Baleguian Organic Farmers Irrigators Association and the Taguibo Irrigated Pest Management Irrigators Association.

Also in the list of awardees is the Bayugo Agro Forestry of Surigao del Sur.

“The APCP is a very helpful program because it gives us access to credit at an affordable cost, development assistance and marketing support,” said Winefredo Maldos, chairman of the Baleguian Organic Farmers Irrigators Association (BOFIA) of Jabonga, Agusan del Sur.

This year, the APCP targets to release P94.8 million to 4,251 farmer-beneficiaries. (Joie Ceballos)
