The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) joined the celebration of National Women’s Month last March to recognize the working rural women of Agusan del Norte.
With the theme “Kaayuhan ni Juana, I-apil sa adyenda,” a series of activities were conducted by the DAR-Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinating Team, under the leadership of Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Andre B. Atega, involving full participation of DAR women personnel and a group of women Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs), who represented their respective organizations.
“The DAR GAD coordinating team and employees in the province are on-board to fight for women’s rights and their dignity. It is not taking power from women to men, but it’s about all-together working toward gender-equality,” Atega said.
One of these activities was a symposium for women ARBs which highlighted women’s equality and their role in society and development. The event conducted on March 1 was attended by more than a hundred women from different municipalities of the province.
“The symposium for ARB women was conducted to unlock their potentials so that they can respond to the everyday challenges confronting them in the community,” GAD point person Ellen J. Torralba said.
A forum on marriage strengthening was conducted on March 22. The event was participated in by DAR employees together with their partners in life.
“This was a vital activity that involved a redefinition of women’s role as wife to their husbands and her role in the family. The forum also discussed about the differences of men and women and how those differences affect individual performances among employees in the workplace,” Torralba explained.
Free medical services that included medical check-ups, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol tests and blood pressure tests was held at the DAR Provincial office.
A fun walk, fun games and zumba exercises were conducted to promote camaraderie and strengthen social relationship among employees. (Gil Miranda)
