The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) conducted a two-day seminar on Financial Management to two farmer-organizations in Agusan del Norte to enhance the skills of the cooperative officers in basic accounting, bookkeeping and preparation of financial statements.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) Andre B. Atega said the activity is a continuing fulfillment to provide necessary technical assistance to strengthen the capabilities of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) through the provision of institutional capability-building trainings to hone their skills and expertise in financial management through presentation and financial exercises.
He said a total of thirty board of directors and officers of the Avancena Beneficiaries and Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ABFMPC) and Taguibo Integrated Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TIMPCO) attended the training.
Atega said the participating farmer-groups are both active in operating agribusiness enterprise activities. ABFMPC is operating a grain center while TIMPCO is managing a communal irrigation system and production and marketing of organic rice and fertilizer.
Atega added that the participants were challenged to improve their financial operations as they are now more knowledgeable on the critical role of the cooperative officers in handling organizational financial problems through the use of proven tools.
TIMCO Board of Director Preciosa A. Espirito said the inputs from the training are very useful and timely in improving their financial operations.
“We will use this as a tool to make our organization more stable,” Espirito added. (Gil Miranda, PIO-DAR-ADN)
