KITCHARAO, Agusan del Norte – The Department of Agrarian Reform in Agusan del Norte conducted recently a one-day skills training on coconut sap sugar production, an agri-business development assistance to women agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) at San Isidro, Kitcharao town here. Participants were some 40 women members of agrarian reform beneficiary organizations including the Malambuong Kahugpongan sa Kababaenhan sa San Isidro (MAKKASI), Jaliobong Masipag Farmers Organization (JAMAFO), and Jaliobong Irrigators Services Association (JISA).
The activity afforded the women farmers to learn the technology to produce coco sugar as additional livelihood. It also empowered the women by making them less dependent on their husbands’ income.
Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Virginia Batosalem said, “Women ARB household members looking for livelihood to earn additional income were trained to produce coconut sugar in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Philippine Coconut Authority.”
ARB member Flor dela Galo said, “The inputs from the training were useful when it comes to raising more income for my family.”
The activity is a continuing effort of the Department of Agrarian Reform to provide technical assistance to women agrarian reform beneficiaries.
