Butuan Ctiy — About 1,571 farmers in the Caraga Region are set to benefit from the P497,023,487 worth of foreign funded projects in strategic areas.
Region 13 office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR-13) Director Faisar A. Mambuay said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) support project is set to be complete in 2015, which will irrigate at least 2,540 hectares of farmland.
Among the projects include the total rehabilitation of the Simulao River Irrigation System in Trento, Agusan del Sur that costs P393,538 million.
Another ongoing JICA-supported project is the Baliguin Communal Irrigation Project in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte, worth P33,117,887 that will provide irrigation to around 200 hectares of farmland by the end of this year.
These projects are under the DAR Infrastructure Support Project III (ARISP III).
Other irrigation systems include the P44.099 project in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur, which will be completed within the year.
The P7.368-million irrigation project is also set for completion this year, which will irrigate another 82 hectares of land in Tubod, Surigao del Norte.
The canal structure improvement works worth P5.9 million in Adlay Ilaya in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur, will benefit about 40 hectares under the Andanan Irrigation Project (AIP) in Bayugan City.
The Andanan project is a World-Bank funded project that will irrigate about 100 hectares.
