427 Dinagat Island farmers receive land titles from DAR

business mirrorA TOTAL of 427 farmers from the town of Libjo, Dinagat Islands, recently received their certificates of land ownership awards (Cloas) from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Jamil Amatonding and Liberal Party Rep. Arlene Bag-ao of Dinagat led the distribution of the Cloas during simple rites held in the said town.

Cloas are considered as proof of ownership of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) awarded lands to beneficiaries. Amatonding, however, said the issuance of Cloas is just the first step toward more support from the government. He said the DAR-Dinagat Island has lined up livelihood programs and infrastructure projects for the beneficiaries.

Bag-ao, for her part, assured the farmers of supporting the extension of the CARP.

In the entire Caraga region, in which Dinagat Island belongs, 23,000 hectares are set to be distributed this year.

Last year DAR-Caraga’s distribution reached 147 percent of its annual target of 9,000 hectares.
