P17.7-M irrigation projects benefit Surigao farmers

MbulletinTubod, Surigao del Norte – The Region-13 offices of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR-13), and National Irrigation Administration (NIA-13) held simultaneous project turnovers to the rice farmers in Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur on Wednesday.

The four projects include the newly constructed irrigation systems in Cawilan and Tubod in Tubod, Surigao del Norte; and in Barangay Adlay of Carrascal town in Surigao del Sur; and a Post-harvest Facility also in Tubod.

The farmer beneficiaries belonging to Tubod Farmers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Cawilan Farmers Irrigators’ Association, Tubod Farmers Irrigators’ Association, all in Tubod town, Surigao del Norte; and Adlay Integrated and Social Forestry and Farmers’ Cooperative in Carrascal town, Surigao del Sur.

DAR-13 Director Faisar A. Mambuay, and NIA-13 Regional Irrigation Manager Encarnacion Simangan Soriano said the completed projects amounted to P17.7 million under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project III (ARISP-13), with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

ARISP-III is part of the government’s Food Staples Self-sufficiency Program (FSSP), which is a six-year project of the DAR with the primary goal of reducing poverty through agri-enterprise development, food security, and enhancement of economic activities for the 136 agrarian reform communities (ARCs) throughout the country.
