TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, March 4 (PIA)---The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) here and the Local Government Unit of Rizal, this province, recently led the groundbreaking ceremony of a Post-Harvest Facility (PHF) to aid the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in the post-handling of their crops.
The PHF project worth P5,910,492.00 will benefit members of the MALASATCO in Gagabutan West, Rizal town, where transportation of goods becomes a major predicament for the farmers due to the lack of decent road infrastructure.
“Our farmers experience losses because it takes longer days to transport their farm produce which are highly perishable. When the goods reach the markets, buyers haggle to a lower price saying the products are not as fresh anymore,” said town Mayor Joel A. Ruma who had his own share of the dilemma as a previous dealer of ripe mangoes.
For this reason, the Post-Harvest Facility will greatly benefit the ARBs for better storage of their crops and goods, Ruma added.
DAR regional director Atty. Marjorie P. Ayson encouraged the LGU here to embrace also other various projects of the department which will respond to the other needs of the municipality.
Virgilio M. Acasili, Cagayan Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II was impressed with the support of the LGU-Rizal headed by Ruma to the ARBs which went to the extent of donating the lot where the PHF shall soon stand.
Meanwhile, PARPO II Joselito O. Garcia also encouraged the cooperative to maintain and value the facility by remaining a strong cooperative.
Rizal town was also an earlier recipient of a Communal Irrigation Project in Mauanan, and a Potable Water Supply (PWS) in Illuru.
