DAR awards land titles to 241 farmers in Quezon

DAR Regional Director Rene Colocar congratulates a farmer-beneficiary.

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has awarded certificates of land ownership award (CLOA) covering about 348 hectares of agricultural lands to 241 farmer-beneficiaries in Quezon province.

The agricultural lands are located in the municipalities of Atimonan, Calauag, Lopez, Plaridel, Gumaca, Tagkawayan, Buenavista, Gen. Luna, Mulanay, and San Narciso.

Edgardo Paz, a 67-year-old farmer, was one of the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARB). Together with his wife, they have worked together on the farm to raise their family of five.“Napagtapos namin ng mga vocational course ang limang anak kong babae sa pagsasaka lamang. Mahirap, pero nakaraos din,” Paz said.

He is thankful to finally hold the title of the land he has toiled on for most of his life.

“Twenty years ko itong hinintay. Ngayon, malaya ko nang magagawa ang aking mga plano sa lupang sinasaka ko,” Paz said.

During the distribution of CLOAs, DAR Regional Director Rene Colocar said that giving farmers the dignity of owning their own land is precisely the purpose of agrarian reform.

Colocar added that the farmers’ role in society is critical because the entire nation will go hungry without them.

“The DAR is doing its best not only to distribute CLOAs but also to provide support services so that ARBs will be able to improve their lives,” he said.

Aside from the distribution of land titles, DAR also turned over four hauling trucks, worth P3.6 million each, to four agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBOs) in Quezon.

Colocar said the dump trucks were awarded to the farmers’ organizations with the aim of improving the quality of life of its members, as this can greatly help in the hauling needs of the farmers and serve as an added service to the cooperative members and non-members.

The earnings will be used as an additional business asset of the organization and for the maintenance of the trucks.

The four hauling trucks given to four agrarian cooperatives.

“These trucks will not only generate additional income to the ARBOs, but it would also ensure timely delivery of copra and its by-products to the market,” Colocar said.

Coconut is the principal crop in Quezon and copra trading is the main enterprise of the four ARBOs.

The hauling trucks were provided under the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Service program.
