The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Negros Occidental-North, through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), has recently installed 23 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Bacolod City.

The ARBs were installed in the 8-hectare land previously owned by Janet De Luzuriaga situated at Barangay Granada.

DAR Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer (MARPO) Edwin Sanchez, who led the installation rites, said that the ARBs were among the recipients of certificates of land ownership award (CLOAs) distributed by President Rodrigo Duterte last March in Sagay City. The same ARBs also received cellphones as promised by the President.

MARPO Sanchez, in his message, reminded the farmer-beneficiaries of their obligation to diligently pay their land amortizations and taxes as the new landowners. He said that the awarded lot cannot be leased, transferred or sold within 10 years from the time it was issued.

Former OIC-MARPO and newly-appointed Chief Administrative Officer, Ma. Corazon Mondia, who assisted in the conduct of the activity stated that Bacolod City, despite of it being highly urbanized, still has agricultural land that are coverable by CARP and for distribution.

She added that the ARBs were lucky to be identified as recipients and that they should work hard to make their land productive.

Since the start of 2019, DAR in northern Negros Occidental has now installed a total of 679 farmer-beneficiaries covering a total aggregate area of 313 hectares from the municipalities of Murcia and E.B. Magalona; and cities of Talisay, Victorias, Cadiz and Escalante.
