Bagac, Bataan – The Department of Agrarian Reform turned over P55-million worth of
infrastructure projects to two agrarian reform communities (ARCs) in the province of
Bataan.
The Bagac ARC received the newly constructed P27.5-million Banawang communal
irrigation project (CIP) andP11.2-million Saysain CIP, which will irrigate 2,747
hectares of agricultural lands. The major crops planted are palay, mango and sweet
potato.
On the other hand, Agrarian Reform Municipality of Morong or ARMM ARC accepted
the newly rehabilitated P10.8-million Alilao-Ambagan CIP and P5.8-million Sungoy
CIP. The major crops planted in the 3,726-hectare agricultural lands of the ARC are:
palay, banana and mango.
DAR Secretary Virgilio Delos Reyes explained to the farmers that irrigation projects
are wise investments due to the climate changes our country is experiencing. “We
do not know when rain comes. This facilities will assure you that there will be no
shortage of water for your farms therefore you must take care of this and do not
forget to pay your obligations on this project.
Delos Reyes added that the P55-million worth of projects cost to construct the
irrigations is shared by the local government of each town wherein its equity is
determined according to its income class.
The irrigation projects are funded by WorldBank through the second phase of
Agrarian Reform Community Development Project (WB-ARCDP II).
World Bank Country director Mark Woodward seconded the Secretary by saying that
irrigation is also a long term investment. “As long as there are farms, there is always
the need for irrigation,” he said.
Bagac Vice Mayor Jun Mendoza said that he and his people expect a huge boost on
their farm productions. “The facility gives our farmers confidence to pursue whatever
plan they want to venture on their farm,” he added.
The ARC is a convergence zone for the delivery of support services such as
infrastructure projects, livelihood and financing programs.
