Isabela Farmers Receive P33-M Road from DAR

SAN AGUSTIN, ISABELA—The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently approved the construction of a P33 million road that will connect barangays and agrarian reform communities (ARCs) here.
DAR Regional Director Marjorie Alzate and Isabela Congressman Georgidi Aggabao, recently led the groundbreaking of the San Antonio-Mapalad-Bautista farm-to-market-road project worth P33,055,865.00 in Mapalad Hillside ARC.
The project involves the concreting of 7.39 kilometers starting from barangay roads of San Antonio passing through Mapalad and Bautista.
“The concreting of the road will ensure the uninterrupted flow of farm products from the ARC to the market as well as the flow of farm inputs from the commercial center to the farms. Other sectors are also set to benefit from the project,” said Alzate.
According to Alzate, during the rainy season, the roads become muddy and full of potholes prompting public conveyances to charge more than the usual fare.
During the project launch, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Alfredo B. Lorenzo Jr. said the DAR will also install pipe culverts, storm drains and rip-raps at some of the road sections to help prevent flooding during rainy seasons.
Congressman Aggabao expressed confidence that the community will be very cooperative in the construction of the road. He urged the residents to commit seriously to the operation and maintenance activities that beneficiaries must perform.
“It is DAR’s aim to increase the farmers’ income and productivity by providing support services like this,” said Alzate.
