The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the local government unit (LGU) of Gitagum and Manticao, in Misamis Oriental, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) implementing P3,905,000 worth of infrastructure projects to boost the economic lives of the farmer-beneficiaries in the said municipalities.
The projects for implementations are the road protection of Barangay Cabalantian that costs P 2, 970,000 in Manticao with LGU counterpart of P270,000; and the concreting of G. Pelaez farm-to-market road in Gitagum costing P935,000 with LGU counterpart of P85,000. Both projects are to be completed in fifty (50) working days.
DAR Assistant Regional Director Eliasem Castillo said the projects were approved under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) process, a strategy in pursuing the Medium Development Goals of the government in reducing poverty as indicated in the 2011-2016 Phil. Development Plan.
Mayor Rodolfo Buray and Vice-Mayor Shirley Taroy signed the MoA for the local government of Gitagum while Mayor Roberto Lagrosas signed in behalf of the LGU of Manticao.
The infrastructure projects are expected to provide the farmers more access to the markets and various trading centers, as well as easier to transport their farm produces especially during the rainy season.
Castillo expressed optimism that the MoA signing, the first under GPB in Northern Mindanao Region for this year, signals the successful partnership between the DAR and the LGUs.
“The DAR is looking forward to the successful completion of said projects. I thank the local officials for their active participation and support that made the projects possible,” Castillo said.
