DAR, DTI Value Chain initiative to boost ARBOs’ product market potential

web01 r2valuechainThe Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Department of Trade and Industry facilitated a Value Chain Workshop for DAR and DTI Regional Sectoral Industry Cluster in a bid to strengthen the product market potentials of different Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) in Cagayan Region.

Twenty two ARBOs involved in three industry sectors namely, natural beverages, pineapple and banana sectors, were trained on the Value Chain Approach (VCA).


DAR Regional Marketing and Assistance Officer Marites U. Allag said “we prioritized these industry sectors because of their strong market potentials. In our studies, these sectors will usher in opportunities in the region such as job employment, investment opportunities and economic growth.”

According to Rica Pillarca, workshop facilitator of International Value links Association, “the VCA is a tool being used worldwide by development organizations to organize farmers into a cohesive unit capable of coming up with action plans to improve the quality of their products and meet volume requirement of target market.”

“The workshop was conducted in order for the participants to have a functional knowledge and informed appreciation of the VCA”, Pilarca added.

The workshop was done in support to the Up-Valuing project of DAR and DTI to upgrade the products of the different ARBOs in the region.

The three-day workshop was conducted last December 15-17, 2014 at Las Palmas de San Jose Resort,San Jose Village, Atulayan Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. (Michael Angelo L. Benigno)
