The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned over four day care centres in Presentacion, Camarines Sur, in support to the Philippine Development Plan of growth and poverty reduction.
Agrarian Reform Program Officer I, Edmundo C. Nacario of the Program Beneficiaries and Development Division said the project amounting to Php 3 million, with the municipality of Presentacion chipping in Php157,500.00 as counterpart fund, is a great step towards poverty alleviation.The Local government of Presentacion has identified the following Barangays for the construction of the day care centres namely: Barangay Bantugan, which is 15 kms from the poblacion, has a total population of 531 and which can only be reached either by an hour’s trek over a 3.3 km rugged terrain, passing over 2 creeks and one river or by a motorcycle ride at P300/person; Barangay Bicalen with 577 residents is 11.5 kms away from the poblacion and can be reached by a motorcycle hire at the cost of P250/person; Barangay Lidong which is farther at 27 kms from the poblacion can be reached at 600/person motorcycle ride and has a total population of 1021 and lastly Barangay Pagsangaan which is 7.5 kms from the poblacion with 550 residents and can be reached on a motorcycle ride at 80.00/person.
The project 48-square meter school building can each accommodate 30 school-aged kids of 3-4 years old, and these barangays have the following pre-school aged children who would eventually start school this month, Bantugan has 28; Bikalen has 26, Lidong has 36 and Pagsangaan has 40.
Nacario said the municipality of Presentacion, a fourth class small coastal town in the Province of Camarines Sur, has been a recipient of four school buildings under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Program (GPB) of the Government. (Carla Yu)
