Misamis Occidental Farmers Now Land Owners

june 15 2015 national The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently awarded certificates of landownership award (CLOA), covering 125.36 hectares of agricultural lands to 368 farmer-beneficiaries (ARBs) in Bailangao, Misamis Occidental.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Alibasa Andig said the landholding was formerly owned by Richard Griffith located at Barangay Landing, an agrarian reform community (ARC) in Baliangao.

“The Griffith landholding used to be an idle and abandoned land. It was previously awarded to the local government of Baliangao thru escheat proceedings and was subsequently turned-over to DAR for distribution to qualified farmer-beneficiaries,” Andig said.
In his speech, Andig urged the farmer-beneficiaries to strengthen their farm cooperative, a government prerequisite before any assistance is extended to them.

“The DAR’s program does not end in awarding the land, it also provides necessary support services to boost the farmers’ productivity. The government does not deal with individual farmer but with farmers’ organizations or cooperatives,” Andig said.

At the distribution ceremonies, Municipal Mayor Agne Yap Sr. exhorted the farmers to make their land more productive.

Mrs. Elsa Jumalon, a farmer-beneficiary, expressed her gratitude to the government for the land title and vowed to make their land productive. (Arnold Quicoy/Editha Salvador)
