Regional Director Atty. Marjorie P. Ayson said the learning process would also be interactive, i.e. the farmers would learn from each other and the facilitator would be there to guide them.

Ayson added that the launching serves as a replication for the project, which is implemented in partnership with Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), United Nations-Food and Agricultural Organization (UN-FAO) and the LGU of Luna.

“The 35 participants who shall join the FBS are from Bgy. Sto. Domingo, Luna, Isabela, which is a vegetable farm area,” said Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Luthgarda S. Sibbaluca.

During the launching, Hon. Antonio M. Albano, Vice Governor of the Province of Isabela and Hon. Jaime N. Atayde, Municipal Mayor of Luna, Isabela welcomed the project and expressed their support for its successful implementation in the area.

Mayor Atayde said we need 100% commitment and dedication to finish the 25 sessions of this course.

Do not worry about the funds, DAR and the LGU of Luna will provide everything that you need from training up to implementation." Atayde added.

Vice Governor Albano also pledged to provide lunch for the 35 participants for the whole duration of the schooling. He also encouraged the landowners to join Isabela’s Farmers' Congress in order to be oriented with the available services and assistance offered by the provincial government unit to aid the farmers.

Ms. Imelda Guillermo, Assistant Center Director of DA-ATI said that the FBS would help the farmers respond to the market challenges that are associated with ASEAN integration on 2016 where products from neighboring Asian countries would penetrate the Philippine market and vice versa.

Nestor M. Labog, Municipal Agriculture Officer in Luna, Isabela also expressed his willingness to impart his expertise in farming technology including adaptation to climate change for the furtherance of the project.

Lecturers for the initial project orientation were Engr. Lawrence Abad, FBS Regional Pointperson, Ms. Carol Baculi and Ms. Rowena de Guzman. (Charmaine Cae G. Bartolome)
