WEB R5 NATL palay reaper 01Farmers in several agrarian reform communities in Camarines Sur are now shifting from manual harvesting to mechanical reaper, which is expected to cut down time, labor, operating expenses and grain losses. Shown in photo, palay reaper performed impressively during its test run conducted in a ricefield in San Ramon, Bula. The palay reaper is among the farm equipment provided by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to different farm cooperatives throughout the country. Other farm equipment given to beneficiaries include 4-wheel 90 and 120 Massey Ferguson tractors, amphi or floating type tillers, rice threshers with 9-hp diesel engine, hand tractors with 70-hp Yanmar diesel engines, corn shellers, combined harvester/threshers, and heavy-duty trailers. Camarines Sur II agrarian reform chief Maria Gracia R. Sales said similar facilities has been distributed to farmers’ organizations province-wide in 2013. These equipment help increase rice, corn and sugar production as well as provide a source of income for the organizations or cooperatives, said Sales. She encouraged the farmers to use the equipment with care for their own benefits. (GCBuensalida)
