PARALEGAL Training For North Cotabato ARB Leaders

news national pix 1 oct. 12 2015The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has recently conducted paralegal training for agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) to enhance their skills and knowledge in resolving land problems in Balindog, Kidapawan City, North Cotabato.

Atty. Adela Roden, head of the Regional and Cotabato Project Management Team presented rationale and background of the training, list of problematic landholdings, programs and projects implemented by Program Beneficiaries Development Division, Legal basis of BARC, The difference between Paralegal and BARC, Techniques in Mediation, Evolution of Human Rights, and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

The municipalities of President Roxas, Magpet, Makilala, Arakan and Antipas and Kidapawan City were all represented by one DARMO Staff and selected ARBs, which mostly are Chairmen of Barangay Agrarian Reform Committee. 

During the Role Playing on Mediation, different approaches and strategies applicable and acceptable to both parties.  Sample cases given to them were real, with names and places changed to keep them confidential. Applying what they learned from the training and what they have been doing for years, the presentation turned out to be valuable. There were few comments, observations and recommendations given to improve the skills of the participants.
The participants are not just adopt in the land they cultivate but are also skilled in conflict resolution and mediation.

North Cotabato was one of the six provinces identified as pilot areas on 2012 Phase 1, taking into account its huge private agricultural lands. (Sara Jane S. Sinsuat)
