news national pix 1 april 4 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently conducted series of trainings on Self-Reliance and Financial Independence in General Santos City and in the nearby municipalities of Sarangani to help the farmers boost their managing skills.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II (PARPO ll) Felix C. Frias said that the training aims to strengthen the agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations (ARBOs) and help its members, the farmer-eneficiaries, increase their productivity and income.

“Trainings such as this would help the farmer beneficiaries understand the principles of managing personal resources and increase their ability to provide the necessities of life for oneself and one’s family members” PARPO ll Frias said.
Frias added that the training would help the farmers maximize their resources, experiences and expertise and use them in resolving their financial challenges.

The topics discussed were Principles of Self-Reliance; Resource Management; Needs vs Wants; Financial Literacy and Independence; Types of Income; Cost-cutting Measures and Budgeting; and Savings and Investments.

Mr. Rene Pido, Chairman of Malandag Communal Irrigators Association of Malungon 1 Agrarian Reform Communities (ARC) said that the training enlightened him. “We already have our lands to cultivate and farm-machines are already available. All we need now is to apply the learnings we gained from this training,” he said.

More than 300 farmer-beneficiaries belonging to various ARBOs attended the training. These ARBOs include Kawas People’s Water Association; Malandag Communal Irrigators Association; Brgy. Agrarian Reform Council and Farmers Association; Kablacan WINDS; Tuguis Tambilil Irrigators Services Association; Kalaneg WINDS and KALOM Irrigators Association; and Vineyard Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative.
