PROVINCE OF AKLAN (Aug. 11, 2016)— The El Progreso-Tag-Osip farm-to-market road in Buruanga and the Kabulihan bridge in Malay, Aklan were turned over by the Department of Agrarian Reform’s (DAR) to the local government here. The road and bridge, implemented under Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Projects (ARISP), was constructed to make transporting farmers’ products faster and easier. DAR Undersecretary for Foreign Assisted Projects Herman Ongkiko said the project would greatly improve the trade and commerce of farmers and residents here. A post-harvest facility in Barangay Nazareth in Buruanga was also turned over to the farmer-members of the BENTCH Agrarian Reform Cooperative. The infrastructure projects covers six barangays, where 1,425 are agrarian reform beneficiaries. The projects worth P50.24 million were funded by the Japan International Cooepration Agency (JICA).

Celerina Afable, DAR Regional Director Gideon Umadhay, JICA Project Advisor Kumiko Ogawa, Buruanga Mayor Concepcion Labindao, Malay Mayor Ciceron Cawaling, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Miguel Miraflores, BENTCH Cooperative President Wilfred Ventura and Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Ma. Teresa Valencia.
