DAR pours P91-M worth of infra projects in Zamboanga Sibugay

news national 1 pix 1 august 30 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned over P91-million worth of infrastructure projects in the municipality of Payao in Zamboanga Sibugay to improve the economic conditions of farmer-beneficiaries. 

DAR Assistant Regional Director Agnes Maata said the concreting of 4-kilometer Balungisan-Upper Sumilong farm-to-market road, costing P28,773,587, and the rehabilitation, with spot concreting, of 13.5-kilometer Balungisan-Guiwan road, P17,843,239.42 would provide the farmer beneficiaries more access to various markets and trading centers.

“The rehabilitation of Bulawan Communal Irrigation System, amounting to P44,400,544.54, benefitting  an estimated 580 hectares of rice land is expected to boost the farmers’ yields,” Maata said.

The infrastructure projects are implemented through Agrarian Reform Communities Project phase 2 (ARCP2) under Asian Development Bank (ADB).

“These projects are significant in achieving progress in rural communities. These facilities are not only implemented to make life easier for our farmers but also to sustain the development of their communities,” Maata said.

Aside from the roads and irrigation system, four units of hand tractors, with a total cost of P724,000 were asidelso turned-over to Bulawan-Kulasian-Guiwan Irrigators’ Association, La Fortuna-Capale-San Isidro Irrigators’ Association, Kulasian Integrated Farmers’ Association, and Guiwan Payao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II (PARPO II) Judith Patriarca-Mantos said the farm equipments were funded under the Agrarian Reform Communities Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS).

“Two agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations (ARBOs) in Payao also received P300,00 worth of water sanitation facilities under the Community-Managed Potable Water Sanitation and Hygeine (CPWASH) project. These ARBOs, which would enjoy the safe and clean drinking water, are the Guiwan Payao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (GPARBA) and Upper Sumilong Small Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (USSFARMCO),” Patriarca-Mantos said.

The turn over ceremony were witnessed by Mayor Joepher Mendoza, PARPO I Elizardo Villaseca, Provincial Agriculturist Zosimo Arevalo, Barangay Captain Rico Maata  and other  public officials. (John Lloyd Cababat/PIO/DAR-ZSibugay)
