DAVAO CITY (Nov. 4, 2016) —Three groups consisting of participants from government agencies, nongovernment organizations, social development experts together with proponents from the rural sector namely the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) underwent a workshop on rural development.
The conference cum workshop was conducted to come up with recommendations on rural development for inclusion in the 2017-2022 Philippine Development Plan (PDP).
For the DAR workshop groups, three groups were organized to brainstorm on farmers’ rights and welfare, security of land tenure; and food security and support services.
The DA breakout groups discussed food security while the DENR groups deliberated on environmental protection.
Inputs from workshop groups from the DAR, DA and DENR will be presented today to Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco who in turn will submit to the President the recommendations for consideration in the crafting of the PDP.
