CABAGAN, Isabela (Dec. 22, 2016)—Farmer Vicente Romero was teary-eyed after receiving his certificate of land ownership award (CLOA) from Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano during the CLOA distribution caravan held here yesterday.
“This is the best Christmas gift I have ever received,” said Romero, an 82-year-old farmer from Vidad Estate in Cabagan was awarded with 1.5 hectares of agricultural land. He said he has been farming all his life and finally owning the land he tills means a lot to him.
“With this land, I now have something to leave my children with. My grandchildren will not go hungry,” said Romero.
Secretary Mariano and DAR Regional Director Atty. Marjorie Ayson led the distribution of CLOAs covering more than 5,000 hectares of agricultural land to 1,892 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBS).
After the CLOA distribution, the beneficiaries listened to Mariano speak about his thrusts and directives for the DAR. He also oriented the farmers on the salient points of the genuine agrarian reform.
The CLOA Distribution Caravan is a two-day event that gathered more than 1,000 ARBs in Cagayan Valley to receive their long-awaited land titles and where the DAR turned over infrastructure projects to the local government.
The CLOA Distribution Caravan was conducted on Dec. 20-21 in key places in Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Tuguegarao and Isabela.
