DAR Cites 15 Outstanding Cooperatives Of Mimaropa

news national 1 pix 1 dec. 15 2017PASIG CITY – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Region IV-B conducted its 1st MIMAROPA ARBOs (agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations) Summit where it cited 15 outstanding ARBOs in the region.

With the theme “Organisasyong Magsasaka: Katuwang sa Patuloy na Pag-unlad,” the summit recognized and showcased the gains and achievements of ARBOs after the assistance of DAR and its partner-agencies.

The summit was graced by newly-appointed DAR Acting Secretary John Castriciones who emphasized the marching order of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to empower and uplift the lives of farmers in the country. 
“As Secretary of DAR, we will continue to undertake programs and activities to help you, our agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) form yourselves into ARBOs. These citations that you received are proof that your hard work and the assistance of the department and our partner agencies are successful in increasing your income and uplifting your lives,” said Castriciones. 

He also directed the DAR-MIMAROPA to encourage farmers to become members of cooperative to avail of support services provided by the DAR.

news national 1 pix 2 dec. 15 2017“As a member, [of cooperative,] farmers can avail credit assistance, crop insurance, farm facilities, and marketing support for a sustainable crop production, agri-enterprise, and livelihood projects that would help them increase their income,” Castriciones said.

Regional Director Arnel Dizon said that under the DAR beneficiaries’ development program, DAR-MIMAROPA is currently assisting 175 ARBOs.

“Out of the 175 ARBOs, 15 stood out as the best performing cooperatives in terms of growth, income, management, and sustainability,” Dizon said.

“This summit would encourage the ARBOs to work towards liberating themselves from dependence on capitalists and financiers. With sustainability and effective management of their cooperative’s agri-businesses, this is possible,” he explained.

The 15 outstanding ARBOs include the San Miguel Farmers and Fishers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), Magdiwang MPC, Samahang Gumagawa Tungong Tagumpay MPC, Mina De Oro MPC, Baliis Farmers & Community Association, LinksFARM Magsaysay Site, Mansalay Agriculture & Fisheries Development Cooperative, Liwanag ng NAPO Multi-Sectoral Peoples Cooperative, Agra Progreso, Malalong MPC, St. Maria Agrarian Reform Cooperative, Tanikala ng Pagkakaisa, Longon MPC CK Plus and Tuban Blessed Farmers MPC.

The farmers' summit was held on Dec. 13, 2017.

The MIMAROPA region consist of Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
