DAR launches 165 agrarian reform communities in Bicol region

news national 2 pix 1 july 31 2018TAGAYTAY CITY--Farmer-beneficiaries are now experiencing the influx of support services from the government after the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) established 165 agrarian reform communities (ARCs) in the Bicol region.

Regional Director Arnel Dizon reported this during the department’s 2018 performance review and planning session held in Tagaytay City.

“The creation of ARCs started in 1993. The project’s objective focuses on providing support services to areas where CARP-covered lands were awarded to agrarian reform beneficiaries,” said Dizon.

“By establisning ARCs, greater impact can be achieved with regard to development if the resources of the government are concentrated on an area where majority of the residents are ARBs,” added Dizon.

At present, the DAR continuously pours support service to these ARCs such as access to credit, farm machineries, post-harvest facilities and various farmers’ training on modern farming and entrepreneurship.

“As the government pours in support services for the farmers, they will also grow in skills and the community will progress,” Dizon said.

The DAR’s performance review and planning session was held to resolve and address problems in implementing agrarian reform.
