The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently distributed a total of 756 hectares of agricultural lands in Zamboanga del Norte to improve the economic lives of the farmers in the countryside.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio R. de los Reyes distributed a total of 464 certificates of land ownership award (CLOA) to 394 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) from the municipalities of Godod, Sirawai, Siayan, Sindangan and Dapitan City.
De los Reyes handed the 297 CLOAs to Felix Ligutom representing Godod town, 34 CLOAs to Majid Baid for Sirawai; 81 CLOAs to Eufrocina Quitong for Siayan and Sindangan; and 52 CLOAs to Abraham Bayron for the ARBs of Dapitan City.
The CLOA distribution was attended by Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy, Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy, Regional Director Julita Ragandang, and the farmers and other stakeholders of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
The DAR Secretary had also graced the groundbreaking of the P58 million rehabilitation project of Dipolog Communal Irrigation System at Sitio Banicapt, Galas in Dipolog City.
The project, which is funded by the Agrarian Reform Communities Project phase II (ARCP2) with 50% counterpart from the Local Government Unit of Dipolog, is expected to be completed in 210 days.
The completion of the irrigation facility is expected to double the cropping intensity of the farmers and enhance their living condition through increased crop production. The project is seen to benefit not only the 486 ARBs in the area but also the residents in the nearby barangays.
The irrigation will run through Barangay Gulayon, Sta. Felomina, Galas ,Olingan, Punta and Sinaman.
