Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur - Thirty four (34) agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) recently installed in a 95-hectare former estate of spouses Maria & Alfredo Medel in Barangay Butuan, Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur.
Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region XI Director John M. Maruhom said the installation of the said beneficiaries were assisted by Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Army (PA). But he noted that the perimeter/ relocation and subdivision survey went on smoothly amidst an earlier threat from some of the heirs of the estate who have opposed that their lands be covered under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
"Each of the 34 ARBs received an individual CLOA with areas ranging from half-a-hectare to a maximum of three hectares," Maruhom added.
Maruhom instructed the ARBs to proceed to their respected lots to physically cultivate the area and advised them to make the land productive through intercropping banana, cacao, coffee and other high value crops for them to have income to pay for the 30-year amortization of the land to the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).
