pic1july14LIBJO, DINAGAT ISLANDS—Farmers here shed tears of joy after receiving their certificates of landownership awards (CLOAs) from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

A total of 427 farmers were given CLOAs covering 632.5 hectares of agricultural land.

DAR Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Jamil Amatonding said that “the CLOA is just the first step towards more support from the government. The department has lined up livelihood programs and infrastructure projects for our farmer-beneficiaries here.”pic2July14

Now that congress is back in session, Dinagat Representative Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao, who led the CLOA distribution with Amatonding, assured the farmers of her support for the extension of the comprehensive agrarian reform program (CARP).

In Caraga, 23,000 hectares is set to be covered for distribution this year. Amatonding said that this year’s targeted lands are hard, “but we will continue to give our best efforts in the interest of our farmer-beneficiaries.”

Last year, DAR-Caraga reached 147 percent of its annual target of 9,000 hectares.
