42 ARBs given 30 hectares

visayan dailyForty-two Aliwanay Farmworkers Association members received 30 hectares of sugarcane lands in Barangay General Luna, Sagay City, under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program with Extension Reforms, Wednesday. The farmer-beneficiaries awarded by the Department of Agrarian Reform, were also given their Certificate of Land Ownership Award for Hacienda Aliwanay.

Former landowner Socorro Tupas of the Tupas Foundation reminded the beneficiaries to “cultivate and maximize the use of their new land for better harvest and production.”

She also urged the farmers to be united at all times and treasure the 30-hectares.

The turnover ceremony was attended by DAR provincial and municipal officers who spoke to the farmers andexpounded ontheir responsibilities as new landowners of part of the Aliwanay.

DAR pledged to support the farmers through its programs such as the land tenure improvement, agrarian justice, and coordinated delivery of support services.

The association has a credit limit of 1.072 million provided by DAR under the Agrarian Production Credit Program that is vital for crop production and a provision of support services to its stakeholders.*KBC
