visayan dailyThe Department of Agrarian Reform Negros Occidental 1 is providing farmers in upland areas access to clean water under its Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene project. Caduha-an, Cadiz City recently, in the presence of Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante, Barangay Captain Eduardo Javier and TeresitaMabunay – DAR North head of office, a press release from DAR said.

The project provides access to safe water in the rural communities and reduces water-borne diseases through low-cost, culturally acceptable and appropriate technologies that can be managed and sustained by the community as an enterprise, it said.

The goal is to install low-cost water supply technology and sanitation systems to address the need of agrarian reform beneficiariesfor cleaner water supply and will demonstrate that pro-poor and low-cost technologies will provide households access to safe drinking water supply and sanitation which would eventually enhance local livelihoods in the area, the DAR press release said.

DAR and the Cadiz City local government are working hand-in-hand in the establishment of the infrastructure for the delivery of basic sanitation through provision of counterpart funds for the project and provision of technical support for the sustainable use of the facilities, it added.*
