Muscovado production launched in Bago

visayan dailyA household-level muscovado production was launched in Brgy. Dulao, Bago City by the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Department of Trade and Industry recently. The DAR through its Program Beneficiaries Development, implemented the social entrepreneurship program that aims to provide technical expertise to agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBO).

Trainings provided included the information and community awareness to prepare them for social enterprise and promotion of sustainable and eco-friendly technologies. The 74-member Sta. Rita Multi-Purpose Cooperative was the first of the four identified for its pilot operation.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer,LucreciaTaberna, said they have allotted P300,000 to complete the phases of the project that includes resource-mapping analysis, identification of social issues and potential enterprise, conduct of market study and preparation of financial aspect and finalization of the comprehensive social enterprise plan.

Technology used for the muscovado product was introduced to the group by AladinoMoraca of Eco-Agri Foundation, while the DTI conducted the seminars and trainings on entrepreneurship and product marketing as their intervention for the program

“STARFA will soon launch its muscovado products complete with packaging from the DTI for both local and international market”, FelimonEstanzuela, one of the coop members,said.

The launching was held at the Guanzon-Balgos Elementary School and was attended by the officials of the DAR led by Regional Director Stephen Leonidas, PARPO Lucrecia Taberna, PARPO I Enrique Paderes and representatives from the partner agencies.*
