DAR funds climate resilient farm project in southern Negros Occidental

PNABACOLOD CITY, July 3 (PNA) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has allocated P650,000 for the implementation of the “Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Project” of the Minoro Isabel Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association Inc. (MIARBA) in Isabela, Negros Occidental. In a report Monday, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Lucrecia Taberna said the project will benefit 78 members of the ARB organization located in Sitio Minoro, Barangay Sag-ang.

Taberna, who spearheaded the turn-over rites, said the project is being implemented under the DAR’s Integrated and Diversified Natural Farming Technology and Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Project.

The DA provided funds for the purchase of construction materials for the farm facilities such as greenhouse and plant nursery, fermentation building, drip irrigation system, biogas digester, iron removal filter, water harvester tank as well as for training.

For its part, MIARBA, headed by chairman Mario Patricio, identified the 2,000-square meter project site.

Taberna said the project aims to enhance the productivity and income of farmer-beneficiaries through livelihood projects in agrarian reform communities which will be managed and sustained by the community.

It will use “organic technology” in equipping the community to become climate-resilient, she added. (Erwin P. Nicavera/PNA)
