DAR turns over P6.7-million rural-infrastructure projects

business mirrorA FARM-TO-MARKET road, a footbridge and four water pumps worth P6.7 million were recently turned over by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to the local government of Cabugao, Ilocos Sur.

The P1.3-kilometer farm-to-market road was built at a cost of P6.2 million, while P200,000 was spent for the rehabilitation of a 62-meter Cabugao footbridge.

The water pumps are worth P400,000.

Ilocos Sur Provincial Agrarian Reform Program officer Christianne Suguitan said the projects were implemented under the grassroots participatory budgeting process. The road project connects four barangays, namely Catucdaan, Sisim, Alinaay and Caellayan to the main road, while the footbridge was constructed in Barangay Carusipan.

“Some 7,000 farmers and residents are now enjoying the concreted road and footbridge. The farmers now transport their produce and agricultural products faster to the market center,” Suguitan said.

Meanwhile, the water pumps would serve 536 farmers in barangays Reppaac, Caellayan, Bato
and Nagsantaan.

“All these projects are in line with the DAR’s aim of boosting the economic activities in farming communities,” Suguitan said.
