DAR donates farm equipment to 3,000 Ilocos Norte farmers

business mirrorTHE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said it has turned over P37 million worth of farm machineries to 20 farmers’ cooperatives based in Ilocos Norte.

The farm machines consisted of 13 hand tractors, six rice threshers and two rice reapers.

More than 3,000 farmers who are all agrarian-reform beneficiaries (ARBs) are direct beneficiaries of the project being implemented by the DAR through the Agrarian Reform Communities Connectivity Economic Support Services (Arccess). The program aims to transform ARBs into viable entrepreneurs by providing them support services to increase their income.

DAR Ilocos Norte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Vic Ines said the farm machineries will boost farmers’ productivity in the province.

Ines said the farm implements were given as “equipment grant” and will be operated by farmers’ cooperatives.

Ines said that under Arccess, the DAR, through its partner-agencies, teach farmers agribusiness technologies to help them establish farm enterprise and gain access to credit and better markets.
