The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned over Php 38.5 million worth of farm-to-market road project to the local government unit (LGU) of Quirino, Ilocos Sur benefitting the farmers covered under the Sumayaat Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) in the area.
DAR Secretary Virgilio De los Reyes said the project was constructed in two phases: phase 1 is the Improvement of JNR Baybayatin-JNR Nasuco road with a length of 4.623 kilometers and phase 2, the construction of vented spillway and road approaches of 355 meters.
De los Reyes said the project benefited 130 farmer-beneficiaries in the area.
“Inyo pong pangalagaan, pahalagahan at mahalin ang proyektong ito sapagkat ito po ay pinaghirapan ng gobyerno para maibigay sa inyo,” De los Reyes said.
Quirino Mayor Clifford Patil-ao expressed his appreciation for Secretary De los Reyes since it is the first time for a DAR Secretary to visit a remote area like theirs.
The turn-over document was signed by DAR-Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Project (DAR-ARISP), Japan International Cooperation (JICA) represented by PARPO Christianne C. Suguitan, the Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) represented by Engr. Pio Perilla, the LGU Quirino represented by Mayor Clifford Patil-ao; and Barangay Suagayan represented by Brgy Captain Moreno Gapang. (by Ms Rizalyn Ambida)
