The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Pangasinan recently led the oathtaking of the 28 potential farmer-beneficiaries to one parcel of land in Central Azucarera de Tarlac (CAT) property in barangay Bani-Bical Norte, Bayambang, Pangasinan.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Maria Ana B. Francisco said Judge Dominico E. Sanchez of the Bayambang Muncipal Trial Court, Bayambang, Pangasinan administered the oathtaking.
Francisco said the potential farmer-beneficiaries are the actual tillers/occupants of the CAT property and are only waiting for the formal decision of the Supreme Court for DAR coverage.
Francisco disclosed that the CAT property was converted into commercial, industrial and residential in 1975.
The conversion order was reversed and the land was returned for CARP coverage in 2006 by the then DAR Secretary Nasser Pangandaman.
Francisco noted that the order was appealed by the landowner to the Court of Appeals and the decision was in favor of the farmers. The landowner further brought the case to the Supreme Court.
“Pending to the decision of the Supreme Court, the farmer-beneficiaries were advised to continue to till the lands,” Francisco said
One of the beneficiaries said, “salamat sa DAR sa malaking tulong na ito para sa aming ikinabubuhay.”
