DAR conducts assessment of projects given to agrarian cooperatives

news reg 1 pix 1 jan. 27 2017ILOCOS NORTE—The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently conducted series of assessment and evaluation on the projects and farm implements given to 21 agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations (ARBOs) under the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS) of the department.

Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer Teresita Acang said the general objective of the assessment and evaluation is to review the status of the business operations of the common service facilities (CSFs) such as farm tractors, threshers, reapers, etc., given to the ARBOs as business assets.

The farm implements were given as “equipment grant” which are operated by farm cooperatives as a business asset where user fees are collected and utilized for the operation and maintenance of the farm equipment.

“There is a need to assess the income of the CSFs and account its contribution to the over-all ARBOs business operations,” said Acang.

Held in three batches, review sessions on operational issues and workable strategies were discussed during the ARCCESS-CSF assessment and evaluation series.

Acang said ARCCESS is a joint project between DAR and local government units here which seeks to strengthen ARB communities by building support service in the community.

“It runs on five major components which include provision of CSFs for production and processing, agri-technology and agri-extension services, business development services, how to run agricultural enterprise, credit facilitation and land tenure improvement,” said Acang.news reg 1 pix 2 jan. 27 2017

The DAR also held a two-day assessment and action planning workshop to evaluate and further improve its Village-Level Processing Center Enhancement Project (VLPCEP) of the department.

The VLPCEP is a partnership program that develops market competitive products of the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) and enhance their enterprise and livelihood activities at the community level.

The participants in the VLPCEP activity are Camguidan MPC, Malampa AR Cooperative, Bagnos MPC, Garnaden MPC, Namnama ARBs MPC, Bugayong ARBs MPC, Caunayan MPC, LBN MPC, Dupitac ARBs MPC, San Jose MPC and Mumulaan MPC. (By Jorge Guerrero)
