DAR, DPWH turn over newly-constructed bridge to Laoag City

PIAnewlogo2017LAOAG CITY, June 30 (PIA) – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) handed over the newly-constructed bridge to the City Government of Laoag City. This 28-lineal meter bridge is situated at Barangay 52-B Lataag of this city. The project is under theTulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo Program(TPKP) of DAR with a minimum budget of P16 million per bridge.

The TPKP project involves the construction, installation, and establishment of "universal bridges" in priority Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) and Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) covered areas.

It aims to promote rural development by connecting the ARCs in the economic mainstream and opens up development potentials in order to raise productivity and income.

According to DAR Undersecretary Sylvia F. Mallari, the program seeks to develop more bridges to be implemented all over the country and to build at least 60 bridges every year up to 2019.

“The bridge ensures the safety of the users in all barangays. Our Buted Bridge was re-designed and re-validated care of DPWH. Let us sustain the gifts given to us especially for this kind of opportunities from the government,” Mallari said.

The Buted Bridge is the first anti-skid element on the surface that makes the bridge lesser chance of accidents. Moreover, it is one-of-a-kind and revolutionary, unlike the ordinary bridges in the country. It also has a pedestrian and space for those who are using bicycle.

Mayor Chevylle V. Fariṅas said the bridge will serve as an easy way for the farmers in transporting goods.

“It will ease out the difficulty of our farmers. The bridge is always equal to better accessibility and I believe that it will save the farming activity here in Lataag and in the nearby barangays,” she said.

DPWH will implement two more improved bridges in the province in four-month time.

The recent inauguration was attended by DPWH Regional Director Gil R. Villanueva, DAR representatives, and city and barangay officials. (JNPD/CJDG/FKFI-OJT, PIA-1, Ilocos Norte)
