The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned over a P5.7 million worth of Potable Water Systems (PWS), providing farmer-residents of Barangays Iluru Sur and Iluru Norte in Rizal, Cagayan clean and safe drinking water.
DAR Regional Director Atty. Marjorie P. Ayson said the PWS would greatly help reduce, if not eliminate, the occurrence of diarrhea and other water-borne diseases in the two barangays.
“Good quality water supply and good sanitation is essential to achieve healthy community,” Ayson said.
“DAR’s provision of potable water project is aimed at reducing water-borne diseases in the community, in addition to providing water for backyard livelihood opportunities such as vegetable production and other similar activities,” Ayson added.
Ayson also thanked the local government of Rizal led by Municipal Mayor Atty. Joel Ruma, as the implementing agency in-charge in managing the project and maintaining a good partnership with the Department.
Also present in the turn-over ceremonies were Jessbeth G. Quidasol, DAR Assistant Regional Director for Administration and Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Virgilio Acasili of DAR Cagayan-Batanes.
The PWS project was implemented under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Project (ARISP). (Ma. Iseendra N. Miguel)
