DAR 2 turns-over water sanitation facilities, benefit 80 households

piaSAGUDAY, Quirino, March 5 (PIA) – The Department of Agrarian Reform regional office and the Local Government Unit here turned-over a Community-managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (CP-WASH) project worth P195, 000.00.
Turned-over by DAR-Quirino Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer I (PARPO I) Engr. Arthur E. Faeldon and PARPO II Joselito O. Garcia with Saguday town mayor Marcelina M. Pagbilao, the CP-Wash project will benefit 80 households of Barangay Tres Reyes at StoTresdigam Agrarian Reform Community here.
 
The project consist of four facilities to include Iron Removal Filter awarded to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) Esperanza Gonzales and 32 household members; Bio-sand Filter to Angelito Nicolas and 4 household members; Bio-Gas Digester to Francia Calimlim with 3 household members; and Rain-Water Collector to Tres Reyes Elementary School.
 
PARPO I Engr. Arthur E. Faeldon said that the low-cost technology would bring renewed hope and enthusiasm among the residents towards the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). 
 
Faeldon was impressed with the willingness of Mayor Avelino Agustin, Jr. of Cabarroguis, Quirino to replicate the same project in his municipality.
 
Moreover, PARPO II Joselito O. Garcia, who once served as the PARPO in Quirino, bared that lack of water supply has always been a major problem in some areas in the province.
 
He then encouraged the residents of Saguday to maintain the project which not only provides potable water but also promotes proper hygiene especially among women and children.
 
Mayor Pagbilao thanked DAR and partner agencies in the construction of the CP-WASH project which would define the well-being of the residents in his municipality. 
 
She further advised his barangay officials to lead in the safeguard of the project.
 
In response, Barangay Captain Dominador Calimlim vowed to maintain the project as they were equipped with hands-on trainings on the proper handling of this low-cost technology.
 
The project also includes biogas wastewater treatment system which is a good substitute for liquefied petroleum gas for cooking, using animal waste as source of gas via decomposition process while its water tank is equipped with iron removal and bio sand filters to ensure constant flow of clean water.
