NUEVA VIZCAYA, May 15 -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)recently turned over P4.8-million worth of post-harvest facilities to the farmers of Galintuja Consumers Cooperative in Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya.
The post-harvest facilities, composed of 72 sq. meter-warehouse and 360 sq. m.-solar dryer, with 1,500 cavans capacity will provide drying and storage facilities to the 126 members of the Cooperative for their farm products.
In a statement, Regional Director Marjorie P. Ayson said the facility will also serve as the Cooperative’s center for business transactions where they can sell the farmers’ products thereby saving time and transportation expenses to the markets and other trading centers.
“This infrastructure project facility will be a big help in maintaining the farmers’ product in its best quality,” she said.
Undersecretary Rosalina Bistoyong, on the other hand, said one of the DAR’s objectives is to empower the farmers by boosting their farm productivity and their income. “It is just right because they are the producers of the food for our country,” she said.
