46 extension workers complete trainers’ training on palay, corn production

piaCABARROGUIS, Quirino, June 6 (PIA)—At least 46 agricultural extension workers from selected Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) of Quirino  recently  graduated from the Season-long training of trainers on Palay Production on Palay Check and a 3-day training on Corn Production under ARCCESS-AES Project

The trainers’ training which was conducted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Quirino State University main campus  is designed to develop and enhance the knowledge and skills of potential trainers who will serve as “educators” to other farmers within their community.

During the course of the training which started on November 23, 2013 until March 31, 2014, the participants went through intensive trainings on organic agriculture, natural farming systems, integrated crop management, and community development among others.

The participants were also toured to the Quirino Experimental Station at Dungo, Aglipay, Quirino during the Field Exposure Trip by   Dr. Fredisminda M. Dolohan, team leader of DAR-ARCCESS, wherein they were given the opportunity to witness the technology of modern farming on high value crops.

Also, they  observed the technology used in livestock production such as in goat, cattle and pecking duck and  visited model farms in Isabela particularly at Cabatuan and San Mateo, Rizal where integrated farming has proliferated.

They likewise visited DARPO, Cauayan, Isabela, wherein a video presentation exhibiting the use of rice transplanter machine versus traditional planting was shown and exhibited.

Furthermore, the participants  proceeded to San Manuel, Isabela to witness the actual demonstration on the use of rice transplanter at Villa Cabanes Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

The resource speaker during the Training of Trainers commencement day, Dr. Imelda V. Iglesias, extension director of Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), lectured on how to be an effective extension worker stressing that what they have learned throughout should not stop during their graduation but it  should be shared within the community.
