Agrarian reform cooperatives get training from DAR-Bataan

gitnangluzonABUCAY, Bataan – Agrarian reform cooperatives in the province continue to get training sessions from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Bataan.

Agrarian reform cooperatives are those being assisted by DAR, and whose members are mostly agrarian reform beneficiaries.

The cooperatives underwent Microfinance Forum and Credit Management Seminar, respectively, in two successive weeks.

Senior Agrarian Reform Program Officer Norma S. Evangelista said officers of microfinance institutions from Central Luzon served as speakers in the Microfinance Forum.

She said they conducted the Credit Management Seminar for agrarian reform cooperatives, where they can qualify to avail loans offered by DAR Agricultural Credit Policy Council.

Evangelista explained that while the fund will come from DAR, the Land Bank of the Philippines would be facilitating the loan for the cooperatives.

Earlier, DAR Bataan completed this year the 14 required trainings for agrarian cooperatives here.

Cooperatives need to undergo 14 training packages based on Republic Act 9520 or the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008.

DAR Bataan Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Engr. Eric San Luis earlier pointed out that the cooperatives need to undergo all the trainings in order for them get Certificate of Good Standing.

DAR Bataan is the only DAR entity in the country accredited by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) to facilitate trainings for cooperatives.

Evangelista said they had also conducted Gender and Development (GAD) seminar for agrarian reform cooperatives here. She said every cooperative is mandated to create GAD Committee in accordance with a memorandum circular issued by CDA.

The agency through the leadership of San Luis is extending all support to agrarian reform cooperatives in the province. • Butch Gunio
