Central Luzon farmers learn to use new equipment

sunstarMABALACAT CITY -- Hundreds of farmers in different parts of Central were taught on how to handle modern farm implements during a whole-day training held at the Technology Resource Center (TRC) in Barangay Paralayunan here on Friday.

Engineer Ramon Estanislao, assistant regional director of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Central Luzon, said that they conducted the hands-on seminar for farmers who received the equipment under the government's agricultural modernization program.

Estanislao said that the training is aimed to equip farmer-recipients with technical knowledge in the operation and maintenance of hand tractors, power tillers, reapers, and threshers, among others.

"We consider this activity a momentous event for the agrarian reform beneficiaries in general and the DAR in particular," Estanislao said.

The program is expected to help in alleviating poverty incidence in the region, he said.

A total of 126 farmer organizations in Central Luzon benefitted from the P36-million worth of farm equipment recently distributed by DAR-Central Luzon.

DAR Regional Director Arnel Dizon led the ceremonial turnover of the equipment at the TRC office.

Dizon said the P36 million farm implement include 117 hand tractors, 21 power tiller cultivators, 18 palay reapers, seven palay threshers, and seven corn husker shellers.

The DAR official said the equipments were given away under the Agrarian Reform Communities Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS).
